Frequently Asked QUestions

When should I book a session?

The quick answer: the sooner the better. I would love to photograph every new baby and mama-to-be, but until my clone becomes available I'll be a one woman show. I have limited availability and regularly book 2-4 months in advance. If you're considering a session please contact me, I will guide you through the process to determine if I'm the right photographer for your needs.

What do you mean "the right photographer for your needs"?

As much as I would love to personally photograph every baby in the world, I know that my style doesn't suit everyone. The most important thing to me is that you get images that you will love and will cherish for a lifetime. For that reason, I work hard to ensure that we are a good fit for one another - both in terms of your expectations for your images, and also your overall portrait experience.

How do I schedule a newborn session when I don't know exactly when the baby will be born?

When you book your session I will set aside time on my calendar around your due date for your session. When your baby is born, let me know and we will confirm a specific time and date for your session. I ask that you contact me within 72 hours of birth for newborn sessions, so that we can schedule your session as soon as possible. If at any time it is determined that you will have a planned induction or c-section, let me know and we can schedule your session in advance.

Where do sessions take place?

All newborn and baby milestone sessions take place in my residential studio in Fairfax, VA. Maternity sessions may be held either in the studio or on-location at one of my favorite outdoor locations in Northern VA. As the kids get older, family sessions are held outdoors to allow the opportunity to explore.

Can I bring my older children to my newborn session?

Older siblings are welcome for newborn sessions with the understanding that a parent or other caregiver take the older sibling elsewhere when they are not being photographed. Newborn sessions are long, hot, and require a quiet & calm environment - a recipe that's sure to make even the most well behaved child frustrated and uncomfortable. If you have an older child who will be part of the session, we will take any images with them at the beginning of the session and someone can pick them up once their portion is over.

Can I include the baby's grandma/grandpa/aunt/uncle/godparents in the newborn session too?

Sessions are limited to immediate family members only, extended family members are not permitted. Sessions with babies and newborns require a calm, peaceful environment and unfortunately the presence of additional people is disruptive. It's natural for a newborn to be more alert when there are more people are around and to ensure the most successful session possible sessions are for immediate family only.

Do you offer family sessions?

Due to my limited availability, family sessions are offered on a limited basis each year to current and previous clients only.

What should I wear?

The studio wardrobe is available to every mother having a studio session. Upon booking I will also send you a Welcome Guide chock-full of information about how to prepare for your session, including information on styling and what to wear. In the weeks leading up to your session also feel free to send me links and images of outfits that you are considering for your session. I am happy to help guide you to find something that will photograph beautifully and that you will be comfortable in.
